Lectures on Chinatown

The Chinese Culture Center invites you to join a lecture given by Gordon Lew who will speak about the decorative motifs and symbols, such as the dragon and phoenix, the eight trigrams, flowers, pagodas, and couplets found in Chinatown.

Come and explore the historical perspectives of family and district associations in Chinatown, and how their roles differ from Chinatown business and fraternal groups.

Mr. Lew is a leading expert on Chinese and Chinese American culture. He is the former chair of the Chinese Department of the City College of San Francisco where he taught Chinese language and culture. He was also the publisher of East-West bilingual news for many years. His previous lectures on Chinese American culture include such topics as folk festivals and surnames.

Both lectures will be given in English

Admission is free for CCC members, and $5.00 for non-members.
