		<description>Dear Abby,

Thank you for sending encouragement to enter Mills Bldg. Exhibit.
Kerri selected 7 pieces of my ceramic work. I showed her the many boxes I
made from scratch. Kerri thought it be great to show in the boxes in the
large display case, however I the resident who is in charge of the
woodwork shop could not or did not understand the deadline for the event,
and wasn&#039;t able to help rig up something to hold the panels of boxes
upright.

Before my husband and I moved into the Sequoias(a senior living
facility), I use to teach and did many years of vounteer teaching art
projects in the S.F. public schools. For the past 10 years I am teaching
a craft class here at the Sequoias(a senior living
facility). I have reached the ripe old age of 81 1/2 years, and
have always had an interest in creating whatever out of found objects or
things that people toss out. I often teach projects to the residents
making use of old calendars, file folders, old candy
catalogs, wallpaper, press flowers, seaweed, dried moss, etc.
Perhaps my use of throwaways stem from the fact that I grew up in the
1929 Depression era. Creating playthings from whatever we could find -
there was no money to purchase toys.

I&#039;ll send my resume and a small photo of the boxes that would have been
shown at the exhibit if had been able to keep the panels together.

I am a native San Franciscan. My father was the first Chinese boy to be
born in Palo Alto. As a matter of fact he was born on the Leland Stanford
Estate. My grandfather worked as a caretaker of Leland Stanford. My
grandmother was from China. In fact, I&#039;m trying to write some of my
memories and help my bother in gathering together stories of our childhood
growing up in America.

The CCC site is of much interest, and hope that you continue your good
work - it is exciting to see what is especially the happenings of the
younger generation in Chinatown.
