In previous years the Series has featured artists such as installation Beili Liu from Austin, and fiber artist Dora Hsiung from Boston.
Join us on August 14th for a dialogue with the artist, moderated by SFAC’s Lucy Lin, as she introduces not only the inspirations and creative process behind her 0-Viewpoint exhibit but hosts the premiere of a documentary on the artistic process behind 0-Viewpoint’s creation. The Exhibition Series is an annual solo exhibition curated by the Chinese Culture Center to showcase the work of exceptional but under-represented and under-recognized Chinese artist in America. In previous years the Series has featured artists such as installation artist Beili Liu from Austin, Texas and fiber Dora Hsiung from Boston, MA.
This year’s artist, Stella Zhang, was born in Beijing and studied in both China and Japan before moving to the United States where she currently lives in Palo Alto, CA. Zhang’s uniquely complex and engaging 0-Viewpoint installation explores the constantly shifting inner landscapes of self and femininity. Her latest work, 0—Viewpoint, which made the debut for Xian Rui 2010, was created to convey the idea that everything came into existence by beginning and ending at zero.

Location: Chinese Culture Center Auditorium,

Held in conjunction with our tea exhibition with United Commercial Bank at the Pacific Heritage Museum, this tea ceremony will bring in a different atmosphere through drinking tea. From learning to appreciate the tea cups, smelling the tea’s fragrance to tasting the tea. Like Chinese art, it combines different disciplines. In the old literati tradition, people would gather together to recite poetry, play music, and brew tea. 12 bilingual Tea Masters will present the art of tea with Guzheng and Guqin background music played by SF Gu-Zheng Music Society. Teas will include Bao-Chung cha (made by North American Asian Art & Culture Association members) and Da-Hung-Paw. Spots are limited to 96 guests! RSVP online today!
