In previous years the Series has featured artists such as installation Beili Liu from Austin, and fiber artist Dora Hsiung from Boston.

Join us on August 14th for a dialogue with the artist, moderated by SFAC’s Lucy Lin, as she introduces not only the inspirations and creative process behind her 0-Viewpoint exhibit but hosts the premiere of a documentary on the artistic process behind 0-Viewpoint’s creation. Harrison Lim’s Book Reading & Signing: “A Thousand Years of Women’s Tears” 林炳昌的 《千年紅淚》 新書發佈會

The Chinese Culture Center is proud to present Harrison Lim’s new book, “A Thousand Years of Women’s Tears.” This book examines the heartbreak that Chinese women throughout history experience in relationships. It also looks beyond women in Asia to examine women in other countries. Men and women relationships are analyzed through the lens of a 3rd person perspective, who is better able to see the relationship than the ones in it as the saying goes: “love is blind.” This book will give insight into men and women relationships and show that the ups and downs of relationships are universal, going beyond cultural barriers. This book is written in Chinese. RSVP here.

Chinese Culture Center is proud to sponsor “Uncle Toisan.”

“Uncle Toisan” features the unique experience of a Chinese American immigrant to the United States. His eyewitness account bridges the historical relevance of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, the modern post-civil rights movement, and the emergence of present-day Asian American consciousness.

Uncle Toisan enters the country as a 17 year old “paper son” (immigrants who purchased legal immigration status as a “paper son” of an American citizen), then perseveres through a two-month detention at Angel Island Immigration Station on the eve of its closing in 1939. Read More »
