A series of cultural workshops designed for youth and families was presented at the Chinese Culture Center in May 2005. Parents and kids can have fun and learn about Chinese Culture side by side, right at the heart of San Francisco Chinatown.
A Touch of Brush
An introduction to Traditional Chinese Painting and Calligraphy by
Ms. Amy Da-Peng King
Learn about the essentials of brush painting and paint a “ Happy Family” –(Rooster. Hen & Chicks) to celebrate Year of the Rooster. This two- hour workshop will include an introductory demonstration and a hands-on session. The instructor will show supplies and materials and demonstrate basic skills. In the second hour, you may hold a Chinese brush and start painting with “Mo” (black ink) and colors. You will also learn how to write the calligraphy for the title and your own signature. Ms. Amy Da-Peng King is a well-known brush painter and instructor in SF Bay Areas, she has extensive experience teaching both youth and adult.
Sight and Sound of Chinese Music
Lecture and Demonstration by Master Hong Wang
This hands-on workshop is a rare opportunity to learn and explore traditional Chinese music. Master Hong Wang introduced the history of Chinese Strings (Erhu), Chinese Winds (Dizi, Xiao, Sheng and Hulusi) . And, you even can touch them! An internationally renowned artist and a dedicated educator, Master Wang Wong performed in a 2004 Chinese New Year Concert with the San Francisco Symphony, and in the 2004 Stern Grove Festival.
