Chinese Mandarin Classes

The Chinese Culture Center offers four sessions per year of Mandarin classes for adults and for children. Adult classes and children’s classes are scheduled simultaneously, and parents have an option to enroll their children into a class at the same time as the adult class.
NEW UPDATE:
The 2008 Spring Mandarin Session will be held on April 12 - June 21 (break on Memorial Day Weekend, May 24). Dates are subjected to changes without notice.
Mandarin for Adults
The CCC offers three levels of adult learning:
- Level 1 “Beginner”
For absolute beginners, or those with very limited Mandarin background. - Level 2 “Advanced-Beginner”
For those continuing from Level 1. - Level 3 “Intermediate”
For adults with some working knowledge of spoken and written Mandarin.
The Chinese Culture Center does not offer an advanced level Mandarin class at this time.
Adult classes are scheduled as follows:
Weekend Mandarin Class Winter Session 2008
- Saturday 10:00 am to 11:30 am, Intermediate Mandarin (level 3).
- Saturday 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, Advanced-beginner Mandarin (level 2).
- Saturday 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm, Beginner Mandarin (level 1 Small Size Class).
- Saturday 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm, Beginner Mandarin (level 1 Regular Size Class).
Weekday Mandarin Class Spring Session 2008
- Tuesday & Thursday 6:00 m to 6:45 pm, Intermediate Mandarin (level 3).
The adult teaching style is interactive with an emphasis on spoken language for practical use, and some character learning. Students participate in simple conversations and respond to visual tools for vocabulary building. The teacher is a native of China, and an experienced, professional teacher with a degree in language education. This is an enthusiastic teacher who makes learning fun for students of all levels.
Mandarin Learn and Play for Children
Mandarin Learn and Play for Children is designed for 3- to 6-year olds, and is held in a classroom adjacent to the adult classroom.
Children’s class time:
10:00AM - 11:30AM
The emphasis for children is on learning a beginning Mandarin vocabulary through songs, games and story telling in a fun and relaxed environment. This is not an immersion program and English is also spoken in the classroom. The children will work on Mandarin vocabulary appropriate to their level of learning. Simple words and phrases and some character recognition is taught through worksheets and stories of China. There is discussion and introduction to Chinese culture through crafts and songs. Class size is limited to 10 students.

Class Fees
Fees for 10-week sessions:
Adult Classes (Regular Size Class: maximum 24) - $135 per person for CCC members, $150 for non-CCC members. (books are not included)
Adult Classes (Small Size Class: maximum 10) - $150 per person for CCC members, $175 per person for Non-CCC members. (books are not included)
Children’s Classes - $145 per child for CCC members, $160 per child for non-CCC members.
All transactions are final, no refunds, no exceptions.
Course textbooks & workbooks for adult Mandarin can be purchased on-line and pick up at the first class. Fee payments are due in full before the first class. You may register for adult class only, children’s class only, or both.

Chinese Culture Center congratulates Lin Lin, our Mandarin Class teacher, who recently received the Community Service Award!
Families with Children from China (FCC) presented a Community Service Award to four Mandarin teachers from around the Bay Area. Lin Lin, current Mandarin teacher at the Chinese Culture Center, was among those teachers honored by the organization of adoptive families. Families with Children from China presented the award in appreciation to Mandarin teachers who have championed the learning of Mandarin language for their families.
Lin Lin, a dedicated and talented teacher, has been teaching Mandarin classes for adults at the Chinese Culture Center for the last five years . Many FCC parents have enjoyed her adult classes at the Center. Lin Lin has also taught Mandarin to many FCC children out of her home in the East Bay. Congratulations Lin Lin!
Chinese Culture Center welcomes Xiangyan, our new Mandarin teacher for weekday classes!
Xiangyan is a native of Beijing, after completion of her Master’s Degree in Education from Peking University, she then came to US and received Master’s Degree in Asia Pacific Studies from University of San Francisco. Xiangyan has been teaching Chinese for 9 year, her students learn grammar, speaking, reading and writing in her class. In addition to the language study, students also get chance to learn the traditional Chinese culture as well as the modern arts, music and literature.

Hello again…sorry to bother you but i haven’t get a reply from my current question… You said i have to bring a parent or guardian to pay for me and get that slip sign but can i just pay online? and then come when the class start because a lot of my family members are busy and i’m not sure if i can stop by this week.

sorry i have another question, does class begin on 1-19-08 because it says “Registration” up there. sorry haha~ i am a cearous person i bought my ticket to class online do i bring in the paper comfirming my enrollment? or i’m already on your computer? thank you again hope to meet everyone on saturday if it start on saturday that is….

sorry~ i miss today class (1-26-08) i heard it was going to rain and also after i arrive in san francisco i have 1.5 hours and i have no idea what to do…..since i live far away in vallejo i take a farry and i don’t really like to wait when it rains outside. anyways can you tell me what you teach in beginner mandarin lesson 2? i have a lot of reasoure i can just use at home and some online friends that can help me.
